چکیده
Abstract We investigate the X-ray and UV emission from contact binary star KIC 9832227, which was observed with XMM-Newton for one orbital cycle. The is detected an average luminosity of 3.4 × 10 30 erg s −1 . restricted to energies below 3 keV originates a multitemperature plasma temperatures up 1 keV. spectrum has at least two distinct components, cooler, mostly steady component, hotter component exhibiting significant variability. variable appears originate compact flare near region between stars that being eclipsed by secondary. analyze eclipse profile constrain location, size, density flaring region. remaining not could polar on primary or extended corona. exhibits same nearly sinusoidal modulation half period longer wavelengths. secondary eclipses have slightly different depths, generally attributed starspot activity. Using simulations light curve stellar atmosphere models, we deduce presence primary, determine time eclipse.

ROSAT X-ray observations of the UV Cetus type star
We have analyzed ROSAT PSPC observations for flare detection using a formalism of Bayesian model comparison. The method is applicable to the direct unbinned data and divides the whole observation into the most probable partitioning of non-uniform segments during which the photon arrival rate had no statistically significant variation. If more than one such segment is found with significantly di...
متن کاملUV and X-ray Observations of Mass Outflows in AGN
More than half of all low-redshift AGN exhibit UV and X-ray absorption by highly ionized gas. The observed UV and X-ray absorption lines are almost always blue-shifted at velocities of hundreds of km/s, indicating that the absorbing gas is outflowing from the active nucleus. In some cases the inferred mass flux rivals the Eddington limit of the central black hole, an indication that these outfl...
متن کاملSimultaneous radio and X-ray observations of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 13+1
We present the results of two simultaneous X-ray/radio observations of the low-mass X-ray binary GX 13+1, performed in July/ August 1999 with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and the Very Large Array. In X-rays the source was observed in two distinct spectral states; a soft state, which had a corresponding 6 cm flux density of ∼0.25 mJy, and a hard state, which was much brighter at 1.3–7.2 mJy. ...
متن کاملX-ray and UV observations with XMM-Newton
We present an XMM-Newton observation of NGC 7469, including studies of the X-ray and UV variability, 0.2−10 keV spectral continuum, Fe Kα emission line and the first-ever high-resolution X-ray spectrum of the soft X-ray warm absorber. We compare the properties of this X-ray warm absorber with the UV warm absorber as seen in a FUSE observation one year previously. The 0.2−10 keV spectral continu...
